How can I increase my picking speed

That's easy, just play faster. Jokes aside, it might be easier to think about this question in a different way: "how can I increase my picking speed and remain accurate?" This new question places accuracy at the center of the problem and solution. The answer of course is to play accurately, over and over again until your fingers feel like they want to (and more importantly are capable to) go slightly faster. You’ll know this because playing at a certain speed will be incredibly accurate and will start to feel extremely unfulfilling as though you have reached a temporary limit on the benefits of practicing at that speed. Trust me on this, you will actually feel it in your fingers. This is VERY different to just wanting to play faster and you will know the difference quickly. If you feel like you want to play faster but you physically can’t, then slow down. This all comes with a caveat: you need to make sure you are getting accurate timing. If you aren’t getting accurate timing then speeding up from 72 bpm to 80 bpm won’t solve your problem, it’s just going to MASK the problem.
