Even before Trump "admitted" to trying to interfere in Georgia's elections during a rally this past weekend, a report by the Brookings Institution explained why the former President likely won't be able to escape criminal charges. They also laid out all of the possible crimes that could take him down. And Trump's attacks against the individuals who could make this all disappear likely isn't helping the situation at all, as Farron Cousins explains. It's becoming increasingly unlikely that Donald Trump is going to emerge from this investigation taking place in the state of Georgia unscathed. You know, even before he went to Georgia this past Saturday and admitted that he did in fact, call Georgia Republicans in charge of the state and said, Hey, let's, uh, not certify your election. Let's have a special that he admitted he interfered, which is exactly what he's being investigated for. But even before that, I think it was actually the day before that there was a major 109 page report from the Brookings institution in Washington, DC, that basically examined all of the publicly available evidence and they had their legal experts look at it. And they determined that there is a multitude of crimes that Donald Trump could be charged with. Again, based solely on what is publicly known. And that's an important distinction to make really quick because there is a grand jury that's been in paneled. In fact, at one point, uh, reports had said, there's two grand juries in paneled. They're looking at everything and we do not know the public does not know what all that grand jury has seen. So we don't even have all the evidence, but the folks at Brookings took what was available, especially obviously the phone call and this was before Trump even admitted to it. And here's the charges they say he could be guilty of, um, criminal solicitation to commit election fraud, a intentional interference with performance of election duties, conspiracy to commit election fraud, criminal solicitation, and state Rico violations, which is racketeering. And that is one of the things that at least one of the grand juries has been looking at the racketeering, you know, was there this concerted effort by a bunch of different individuals to get Georgia to change their election results. And the report even goes on to say that a lot of Trump's associates could also be roped into this. If they go the Rico act, which would include people like Rudy Giuliani, possibly even Lindsay Graham, as he was one of the people who also tried to pressure RAF Hansberger the Georgia Republican secretary of state. Now we also know that the Republicans in the state of Georgia did not go along with this. And that is what has Donald Trump off to the point where again, during his Saturday rally, he actually endorsed, I think jokingly, uh, Stacy Abrams against Republican governor Brian Kemp. And he has already endorsed the challenger of Republican secretary of state, Brad RAF Hansberger. And that could also end up being a problem for Trump, because that could be seen as a form of retaliation, which could also play into the charges that he is likely to face, uh, Fulton county district attorney, Fannie Willis. Uh, she is the one in charge of all of this last week. She did come out and said, look, this investigation is ongoing. It's active, it's ongoing. We ain't stopping. And it's been going on for seven months. Now we also of course have the publicly available phone call that Donald Trump made saying, go find the votes. We have all of this information that according to Brookings clearly shows Donald Trump broke state law. And the kicker is this, even though it's the Fulton county district attorney Fannie Willis in charge of this investigation, right? She is the one making it happen. Those at the higher level of the state who were all Republicans, they could make all of this disappear. Okay. She could submit her final report report. She could issue indictments, whatever, but at the top of the state level, they could say, ah, we ain't doing this. And that's where the fun part comes in because Trump has spent the last nine months publicly, uh, on these people basically mocking them when they received death threats from his own supporters, because they wouldn't overturn the election, mocking them. That story came out what two weeks ago, maybe. So, yeah, you've off an alienated. The people in the state of Georgia who could make all this go away for you. So I don't think Donald Trump is going to get an assist by the Republicans in Georgia at the last minute here.
