Elle est sénatrice indépendante et représente la Nouvelle-Écosse (East Preston). Elle est membre fondatrice de l'Association of Black Social Workers (ABSW) qui vise à répondre aux besoins des citoyens marginalisés, en particulier ceux d'ascendance africaine.
