An diesem Polster verankert sich die Raupe mit dem Körperende und lässt danach innerhalb von wenigen Stunden alle Extremitäten los. Im Laufe von ca. 2-4 Tagen entwickelt sich die Puppe im Innern der Raupe. Durch rhythmische, peristaltische Bewegungen wird die Raupenhülle während der Verpuppung in Richtung Körperende verschoben, was schließlich zur Öffnung der "Raupenhaut" unmittelbar hinter dem Kopf führt und die Puppe frei gibt. Schließlich erscheint der spitze CREMASTER, der mit seinen speziell geformten Haken sich am zuvor gesponnenen Polster verankert. Die alte Raupenhaut (Exuvie) wird schließlich durch heftige Schlenker-Bewegungen entfernt, und die noch weiche Puppe streckt sich, wobei sie ihre endgültige Form bekommt. DESCRIPTION The caterpillars of the butterfly (Vanessa cardui) select a small branch and weaves there a tiny silk cushion. Before pupation the caterpillar connects itself with this cushion. Later on, whilst pupation goes on, appears the abdominal pointed part of the pupa, the CREMASTER, which has got tiny hooks and serves as a tool, to connect the pupa with the cushion. DESCRIPCIÓN Antes de transformarse en una crisálida las orugas de vanessa de los cardos (Vanessa cardui) tejen un muy pequeño colchón de seda, usando una ramita como base. A este colchón, la oruga se fija y finalmente libera todas sus extremidades. Después, y en el transcurso de 2-4 días se desarrolla la crisálida dentro de la oruga. Por medio de contracciones fuertes, la cutícula (piel) de la oruga se abre atrás de la cabeza y la crisálida aparece. Al final de esta muda la parte aguda de la crisálida, el CREMASTER aparece y se fija al colchón.
