SUBSCRIBE FOR MORE INFORMATIVE TRAVEL VIDEOS AND STORIES A moving story from Diyarbakir, Turkey, circa 639 AD The month of Ramadan began and Muslims were fasting during the siege of the city of Diyarbakir. Khalid bin Walid RA was the commander of Muslim army. One of the soldiers came and left bread in the commander’s tent. However, Khalid bin Walid RA never saw the bread. The commander guessed that there wasn’t any supply left, hence he fasted for three days without eating anything. After three days, he wondered about the amount of supplies. Khalid bin Walid RA: “Are there any supplies left?” Soldier: “The supplies are sufficient” Commander: “So why don’t you leave any bread in my tent for the last three days?” Soldier: “I leave bread as usual.” As a result they began to watch inside the tent and they noticed that a dog would come and take the bread and go to the castle. They followed the dog and they saw that the animal passes through the city walls via a small hole. They agreed to make it bigger and pass to other side through it. First, Süleyman the son of Khalid bin Walid RA and his contingent passed from that hole and succeeded to open the door of the castle, 27 of the Sahaba RA were martyred at that place and are buried there. 41 companions of Prophet Muhammad SAW were martyred during clashes around the city. Subhan Allah, Allahu Akhbar. To pay tribute to those great servants of Allah, because of whose great sacrifices Islam spread around the world, we should do our upmost efforts to safeguard, spread and implement Islam in all sectors of our life and in our society.
