The State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture 2020

تم نشره في 2020/06/08

Our oceans, lakes and rivers are precious. Billions rely on fish as a primary source of protein. Millions earn their livelihoods working in fisheries and aquaculture. The next 10 years provide an opportunity to achieve the global goal of making fisheries and aquaculture sustainable. Progress is being achieved but challenges remain. Both fisheries and aquaculture production reached all-time highs in 2018. While 65.8% of global fish stocks are harvested within biologically sustainable levels, the remaining 34.2% are being overfished. More than 59.5 million people work in the primary sector of fisheries and aquaculture and over 50% of workers along the value chain are women. Sustainable fisheries management is critical to ensure that generations to come can continue to access this vital source of nutrition and employment.
