@tomlemery8490last yearClayton Moore also played the Lone Ranger 1949 -1952, then 1954-1957 on the TV show, The Lone Ranger. Also Leonard Nimoy from Zombies is the same Leonard Nimoy that played Mr. Spock in the old Star Trek tv series.

@greedycapitalist85903 years agoRepublic were really into saving money by this point. Not only is the Rocket Man suit recycled, but Rettick's costume is from an earlier serial called The Purple Monster Strikes - I think it was the same actor, too. Republic serials were always good fun, even though the science made no sense even for the time. ...

@barryon87062 years agoI had this on DVD and watched it a few times. I don't know how typical it was of the old Republic Serials (this one was the only one I've seen) but if it was, I could see at least younger viewers eagerly awaiting the next episode. ...

@johnmcintosh86733 years agoThe Adventures of Captain Marvel (1941) uses the same dummy technology for the flying effects but I think they are much better in the earlier serial, especially in chapter three (?) when Capt Marvel is flying after a furniture removal truck. When Capt Marvel has to fly upwards the cape of the dummy was weighted and the dummy 'flew' from high to low, the film was then run backwards and the effect was complete. The Superman serial, made in 1948, changes to animation when flight is required and it looks ridiculous, why they didn't use the dummy effect I don't know. I am a recent subscriber so I don't know if you have covered Captain Marvel but I would like to hear you review it. ...2

@RJDiogenes3 years agoAh, now this is the very epitome of something being so bad it's good. The kind of universe that I'd kind of like to live in sometimes (especially this year). Forget about photorealistic CGI effects-- I want something that looks like a play at the local theater. As for the bad science-- I admit to being a complete science nerd. Forget about Flat Earthers and Creationists, just regular everyday science illiteracy drives me crazy. And I know some people like to blame Pop Culture for this, at least in part. But I'm fine with it. Worrying about the bad science in movie serials or Star Trek is like worrying about magic spells and trolls in Lord of the Rings. Different universe, different rules, different physics. Flash Gordon is not Carl Sagan. :D Thanks again, RNG, for a great review. I know I can always count on you to validate my worldview. :) ...
