Did you know The Wizard of Oz is considered the most watched and influential movie ever made? It’s portrayal of Dorothy as an ordinary farm girl who was courageous, brave and independent broke existing stereotypes and was a huge boost for women! Dorothy is the inspiration for this episode of Designing the Look: From Idea to Portrait. I’ll take you behind the scenes as I create Dorothy’s dress for my model Jocelyn and build my own Oz’s throne. Then I’ll take you through my creative photoshoots including Melting the Witch, the Poppyfields and the Scarecrow. Then we’ll go to a farm as Jocelyn and her adorable five sisters and mother perform Somewhere Over the Rainbow. I am inspired by Dorothy’s bravery and courage when faced with challenges and hope I can be a little more like her. As a female I’ve been fortunate to have many opportunities to follow my dreams and creative passions throughout my life. I hope all young girls especially can be inspired by Dorothy to believe they can achieve anything they set their mind to. I hope you enjoy this behind-the-scenes look at my creative process from idea, to sketch, to construction to portrait photoshoot. I have many more cuts of fabric and ideas for future projects. Let me know if you enjoyed seeing this process and would like to see more by clicking the Like and Subscribe buttons. Thank you! These outfits and hundreds more are part of my studio wardrobe and available to my clients for beauty portraits, headshots, mother and daughter portraits and senior portraits.
