What’s The Difference: Roof Soft Wash vs. Roof Shampoo In this video, Brian explains how A+ Power Washing and Roof Cleaning has cleaning your roof down to a science. Audio Transcript: “ We’re going to be doing a roof soft wash on this house and the way we do it is we use a very gentle solution. It's got a bleach base in it with our surfactant that's going to stay on the roof and kill the moss and the lichens and the algae that are on the roof. Your black algae that's on your roof will die today and be gone instantly before we even leave. Lichens and moss are gonna turn white- they can stay on your roof for about 90 days but they're just gonna eventually crumble up and fall off. The reason why we don't take them off right away is they have a short root system that's embedded in the shingle. If we pull them off it's sort of like you ripping a scab off your hand- you're gonna leave a pock mark in your skin. We don't want to leave a pock mark in your roof we want this stuff to just die naturally and fall off and then you'll have a smooth shingle like you would have smooth skin. Now, there's a difference between soft washing a roof and roof shampoo or power washing a roof. Roof shampoo uses that same machine that we use to clean concrete and they let it down on there on the roof and they pull it back up on the roof so you have wheels running on your roof, you have a hose running on your roof, you have somebody standing on your roof, you have a power washer power washing your roof, and you're gonna end up losing using shingles off of that. You can see this is already working- it's killing all the black algae, it is already dead. All that white, you see that foam that's on there, that's actually all the algae releasing all the gas out of itself. So that's what's foaming on the roof right now. We wear respirators to make sure that our employees are safe because obviously we don't want to be breathing in anything that can be harmful to us, and that would be harmful. We bag your downspouts so that when the detergent runs down into the gutter, it's going to run down the leader and end up in a garbage bag. We have it covered so there's no damage to your plants, there's no damage to your roof, it's safe for our employees, and it's safe for your pets and your family.
