Asako I & II (2018) directed by Ryūsuke Hamaguchi Ryūsuke Hamaguchi, the director of "Drive my Car" (2021), a film I love out of Japan, created another interesting film with Asako 1 and 2. Asako I & II uses subtle techniques to explore love in a very honest and sometimes brutal way. I call this film an anti-romance because it presents love as a realistic way, as something that is based on chance and something that most people screw up because their past trauma and experiences tend to ruin their ability to love in an honest way. Asako is a very subdued meditation on love and romance and it's definitely a Japanese film worth checking out.
