In this video series, we’ll go through a step-wise approach I use to reading ECGs, focusing on the clinically relevant elements of the ECG that will impact management. Here we focus on the different types of atrioventricular blocks. First degree AV block is due to prolongation of the PR interval. Second degree AV block has two types, Mobitz type 1 and Mobitz type 2. The easiest way to differentiate the two is through looking at the PR intervals between beats. They are irregular in Mobitz type 1 and regular until the non-conducted beats in Mobitz type 2. Lastly, third degree heart block is when both the atria and ventricles beat at their own rates.
