NSW Greens MPs hosting BLM protesters in parliament is ‘very risky’

Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell says NSW Greens MPs were “not setting the best example” by inviting protesters into parliament following Tuesday’s Black Lives Matter protest. Dozens of Black Lives Matter protesters converged in Sydney on Tuesday to take part in the rally, despite it being deemed illegal. The court ruled on Sunday the risk of community transmission of the novel coronavirus outweighed the right to free speech in this instance. According to Mr Clennell, Greens MPs David Shoebridge and Jenny Leong were at the protest in Sydey’s city centre, while one of the MPs escorted a protester into parliament who arrived with a 90,000 signature petition to do with the David Dungay Jr case. “There’s no doubt the Greens were probably not setting the best example as they haven’t all along in terms of taking part in these protests,” Mr Clennell said. “To encourage thousands onto the streets in this sort of environment, it’s far from ideal.
