HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY! To the woman we all want as our Mother In-Law, Irmelin Indenbirken. Thank you for raising such an amazing, humble, kind hearted, talented son 😊💕 Leo’s relationship with his mom is definitely a favourite among DiCaprihoes. Their close bond & extremely tight relationship is one of love, respect & admiration. Their relationship has been consistent throughout his life & after reaching the highest levels of success, he credits it all to her. Irmelin Indenbirken was born in 1943 in an air raid shelter, to a Russian refugee & from a young age, endured a very difficult upbringing & at 11, she emigrated to the US. She would become a legal secretary & marry Leo’s Dad, George DiCaprio. But, their marriage didn’t last & they divorced before Leo was 1. She was never one to deprive Leo of his relationship with his Dad & they stayed civil, buying adjacent bungalows & sharing a backyard, making sure their son never felt the effects of a broken home. Growing up, Leo lived mainly with his mom, in a rough neighborhood in downtown LA. His mom was determined to ensure that her son had a better future & upbringing than his neighborhood was able to offer him & made the decision to drive her son out of their area & enroll him in a school 3 hours away. Offering him a safer environment, a healthier upbringing & a better education. She rose above her circumstances & created a life full of dreams & unlimited potential for her son. Leo often recalls the massive sacrifice his mom made for him as she struggled to maintain multiple jobs as a legal secretary. She taught him about culture, opportunity & engaged in activities with him to broaden his horizons. She took him to museums, read him books & was actively involved in elevating the experience of his life. When he wanted to become an actor, she was nothing but supportive, she allowed him to follow his passion & ensured he got to his acting classes. Somehow, she did it all & it’s something he’ll never forget.
