Ron Darling vs Bryn Smith as the Mets come into St. Louis winning the night before 3-2 and gives the Mets a seven game straight winning streak and moving up in the NL East. Kevin Elster hits his first career inside the park Homerun off Smith in the 4th inning to tie the game after the Cardinals score two runs in the second one of which off a wild pitch from Darling as Todd Zeile scores from third, followed by a RBI single from Jose Oquendo. An additional two more runs for St. Louis in the third including an RBI double from Pedro Guerrero. Mets take the lead in the sixth inning, scoring two runs off reliever Frank Dipino. Total of eleven pitchers used in this 11 inning game when in the ninth inning John Franco gives up a solo Homer from Cardinals catcher Todd Zeile in the 9th to send the game into extra innings as the Mets score a pair of runs in the 11th off St. Louis reliever Ken Dayley..a two out double from Howard Johnson knocking in two runs proved to be the game winner as Mets reliever Alejandro Pena gets the win his 2nd of the season (2-2) and Ken Dayley suffers the loss for the Cardinals his second of 1990 (1-2) that gives Manager Bud Harrelson his 18th win as manager (18-7) since taking over Davey Johnson at the end of May Boxscore https://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/1990/B06260SLN1990.htm
