Chasing the Yesvantpur-Mangalore Day Express | First Run after Lockdown

11 April 2021. Ever since lockdown was imposed in March 2020, the day train connection between Bangalore and Mangalore was cut off until the 11th of April this year when the 06539 Yesvantpur-Mangalore Junction Express Special made the first day trip. Since this pure diesel single line section is quite unexplored and is also facing the prospect of ugly electrification, I decided to try chasing the train and shoot it at three totally different spots - one on the Deccan Plateau region of Hassan, one in the foothills of the Western Ghats near Sakleshpur, and one in the heart of the Western Ghats after Sakleshpur. Even with low section speeds for the train, it was a very hard task considering the pathetic quality of roads and heavy traffic from Hassan to Shiradi Ghats, in addition to actually searching and reaching these spots.
