@hickok45منذ 15 سنواتYou're welcome. I have an 1860 Army percussion revolver and a Remington. I'll eventually do a video with those, too. 16
@
@hickok45منذ 14 سنواتGood points! It's difficult to enjoy shooting at 50 to 80 yards, as the sights are designed for longer distances. One of these days I'm going to have the front sight built up about a quarter of an inch. 1
@
@hickok45منذ 15 سنواتThanks. If you are a subscriber, you should get an email letting you know I've been at it again, playing around on the range! :-) 4
@
@hickok45منذ 15 سنواتActually, with a standard powder charge, I think they are easier on the ears. It's a "big" sound, but because many of them are large caliber id="hidden2" class="buttons"> with slower moving bullets, I don't think they are as loud, or as ear-piercing. ....وسعت1
@
@hickok45منذ 15 سنواتIF the steel targets are perfectly flat with no edges, it's rare to get anything back. You still want to always wear glasses, though, and not shoot id="hidden3" class="buttons"> from too close. Most of the steel is hardened steel, too, which is even better. ....وسعت1
@
@hickok45منذ 12 سنوات@pclfire320, Actually, I always make a POINT to do that. I want lots of air circulating through there to make sure anything left IS burned out before I id="hidden4" class="buttons"> start loading again. I don't want a smoldering ember down in there for five minutes. :-) I've done it this way for almost 40 years and it's worked for me. ....وسعت1
@
@hickok45منذ 14 سنواتNot sure, but it would be tough to hit anybody with a smoothbore flintlock at more than 50 or 60 yards. The Enfield, with rifled barrel, might be accurate way out there for hundreds of yards.
@
@hickok45منذ 15 سنواتNo, that's something I don't have. Interesting gun, though. Do you have one? I think it's interesting the way they load. 1
@
@hickok45منذ 14 سنواتNot too bad. It depends on your powder load, but it's not that bad to shoot. 1
@
@hickok45منذ 14 سنوات@danzig387 , Yes, it was made in England. I think I paid that much for it at the time. 1
@
@hickok45منذ 15 سنواتI don't get my chronograph very often, as knowing the exact bullet velocity is not something I care much about. Nothing that slow about these big muzzle id="hidden6" class="buttons"> loaders; they sling big heavy slugs of lead that you can crank up if you like. ....وسعت1

@hickok45منذ 14 سنواتI"ll send you a link to a muzzle loading forum that might help. There are people in there who know much more about this stuff than I do. I just dabble in it; some of them do nothing BUT this stuff.
@
@hickok45منذ 15 سنواتOh, if I were a hunter, I'd probably use this gun for deer. I doubt you'd have to follow a blood trail after a solid hit with a .58 caliber Enfield. 1

@63DW89Aمنذ 11 سنواتProper loading technique is to seat the Minie bullet on the powder charge with two light raps of the heavy steel ramrod. The "rap" is roughly id="hidden25" class="buttons"> equivalent to dropping the ramrod 18 inches twice onto the bullet to seat it. This expands the Minie to so snugly to fit the bore that the bullet won't budge. I've actually banged the inverted muzzle on a wooden bench with rifle butt vertical, and then used the ramrod to show people that the seated Minie Bullet did not move up the bore! ....وسعت1

@boydgrandy5769منذ 10 سنواتThe percussion cap was brought into common use in the 1820s. Prior to that, a rather peculiar fulminate of mercury cap patent was held from 1807 by a Scots Parson who proposed it as a method for ignition for flintlock fowling pieces that did not scare the birds when the pan powder lit off. He actually won a successful patent infringement suit in 1819 against a British gun maker, so percussion firearms were being produced as early as the Napoleonic war (Waterloo was in 1815), though not in great numbers until his patent expired. Caplocks were in common use in the eastern US by the late 1820s, and the US Army bought percussion carbines in the 1830s, and of course thousands of flintlock firearms were converted between the 1820s and well into the Civil War. 70% of the firearms that are held as exhibits at the Alamo museaum are of caplock ignition, many converted. That fight dates from 1836, as you know. ....وسعت

@xlrv1منذ 12 سنواتThe last two vowels in the name Minié are both pronounced - the accent on é ensures that it is sounded and is not a silent e.
