In order to cast magic the caster has to overcome the magic resistance of the thing they are casting magic on. I’m unique among the elves in that my utter lack of skill and talent prevents me from casting magic on anything, making me the laughingstock of elven society. However, there is one human who has a magic resistance so low that I can actually cast spells on them! It fills me with joy to spy on them with divination magic, their very existence proving I’m not completely useless. And I’ve been so alone. All this time I was cooped up in my tower for centuries trying to study my way out of my own lack of power.
