Who is Saint Patrick? Why do we celebrate St. Patrick's Day? I've wanted to know the answers to these questions for a long time but never looked into it until now. Subscribe to AOQ: /c/allourquestions You'll be surprised to know that St. Patrick, even though his legend is from Ireland, is actually British. He was born somewhere around 385AD and when was a teenager he was abducted by Irish raiders and forced into slavery in Ireland where he would spend the next six years of his life. He managed to escape and find his way back to Britain where he later underwent religious training and became a priest. After being ordained a priest he went back to Ireland and spent the next thirty years converting the pagan country to Catholic. Saint Patrick died on March 17th, 461 but shortly after his death he quickly became celebrated as a holy saint and is still celebrated as a holy saint to this day.
