A while ago, I scooped some rainwater and sediment from the water butts* in my garden and sealed it in a jar, which I placed on the windowsill of my studio. This video details some of the things I saw inside the jar in the second and third weeks after starting. *Yes, it's really called a 'water butt' - https://www.diy.com/departments/ward-100l-slimline-water-butt/679230_BQ.prd Here's the link to a video by Journey Into The Microcosmos, showing a much better view of Paramecium that (I think) are very similar in appearance and behaviour to the organisms seen in this video: /watch/604=t?Qedg-lb5iLK5= Music: Oxygen Garden by Chris Zabriskie is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution licence (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Source: http://chriszabriskie.com/divider/ Artist: http://chriszabriskie.com/

@skyricq4 years ago Oh my. I freaking love this. Especially the, "Interesting things we have are these things, whatever they are." And the many tiny swimming things. Reminds me of the, "You can tell this tree is a birch tree because of the way it is." ... 6

@agargoyle123454 years ago I have chickens. They have clean water (until they step in it). Their preferred water is the green-tinted stuff from the water butt. 33

@server6424 years ago The 0.3MP resolution, calming background music, and gentle narration really brings me back to the educational videos I watched in science class. I’m just glad I can enjoy this on my own terms and there isn’t a pop quiz at the end 😂
I’m rooting for those lil critters! Thank you for sharing, Mr. A. Shrimp :)

@stevemcqueen85844 years ago When it comes time for Sir David Attenborough to retire I think we have a good nominee to take up the mantle of narrator and speaker for the natural world. Good work as always, Mr. Shrimp. Very relaxing and informative. 2

@savannahlevy974 years ago I just made my first ecosphere today, there's little shrimps in it. I spent all day trying to catch fish to add to it, but after catching them I felt bad as I knew they wouldn't have much room or a chance to survive for long. I released them and settled for the little shrimp ... 3

@jasonpatterson80914 years ago The odd, mushroom shaped things on stalks are vorticella. They're common but amazing and you can actually find them growing on copepods and daphnia. 1

@soliiv10474 years ago If I’m correct and please correct me if I’m not, the animals in are Vorticella in German their name is „Glockentierchen“ which means something like „bell animals“ quite fitting if you look at them up close. They are microorganisms and eat by whirling food inside their mouth with their flaggella (not sure if they are called that). ... 2
