V3 Top or Bottom Dimples Pizza Tray Catapult Launch Gliders FLYING. Bryce's random channel asked if there was a build video for V1, I had already done V2 so I have done V3 just as a build video exercise. It does fly but this was made for the build. It looks like V2 was the best performance of the 3. I like using the styrofoam trays that are part of the packaging for the pizzas we buy. I use them for all sorts of projects and they come in several different types of foam and varying shapes and formats. One particular version has a regular dimple pattern on one side. When I make aircraft with them I often get comments suggesting the dimples should be "on the bottom" or "on the top" and I have tried both and I cannot say I have noticed any significant difference. This project is my best effort at doing a comparison but the truth is that even taking care it is very unlikely I can produce two identical aircraft to give a definitive "scientific" test. Both are the same weight and dimensions and they do perform "different" but I cannot honestly confirm the dimples are what causes the difference. I think the dimples are vortex generators helping the air flow on the flat plate wing .
