#terencecrawford #errolspence #canelo #trumediatodayusaboxing #coachmalachiwilliams #trumediaboxingradio #showtime With the news from Paramount that Showtime Boxing will no longer exist after 2023. Many fans have been asking what's going to happen with future fights from recently signed fighters like Terence Crawford and Canelo Alvarez? Paramount Global, the parent company of Showtime and BoxingScene.com, will eliminate Showtime Sports as a department by the end of this year. Paramount Global decision was based on the company focusing exclusively on scripted programming moving forward and eliminating eight-figure annual budgets previously allocated for live sports. Primarily “Showtime Championship Boxing” and Bellator, an MMA promotional company that Paramount Global also owns. The positions of nearly 40 employees in Showtime Sports will be eliminated after December 29. Showtime has two more boxing telecasts scheduled for November 25 and December 9 as part of the network’s exclusive content agreement with Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions. David Benavidez vs Demetrius Andrade. And a December 9 event, probably a pay-per-view show as well, that has yet to be determined. Stephen Espinoza, Showtime’s president of sports and event programming, issued a statement. “It is with profound disappointment that I shared this morning’s news that the company has decided to shut down Showtime Sports at the end of this year,” said Espinoza, who has headed Showtime Sports since November 2011. Terence Crawford, Ryan Garcia and Oscar Dela Hoya have all voiced concerns over Showtime's demise. Terence Crawford says: The system we have isn’t going to fix this. We gotta think different. Look at every other sport is building empires by doing it right. Us fighters need to come together. We can fight in the ring but work together for our sport and our families. Ryan Garcia says: Today is a really important day for boxing. HBO and Showtime defined our sport for a generation and now they are both out. All us boxers need to make this our collective fight. We gotta be thinking about marketing, new audiences, investors, global, all of it. We just have to reimagine it. Oscar Dela Hoya says: I salute Showtime for their near-40 year commitment to the sport that I love. I am hopeful that we promoters can use this unfortunate situation to put our differences aside and start working together more often to help make more of the bigger fights and grow our sport. Boxing is still the greatest sport in the world. The issue is this. Showtime and the PBC created a climate that hurt boxing in my opinion. With wrong side of the street politics. Fighters refusing to fight other top fighters because their loyalty to Al Haymon. The 3 card marley ponzi scheme with inflated pay per view numbers of certain fighters. Controlled mainstream media outlets and social media platforms who spreading disinformation campaigns to trick the public into believing that certain fighter were PPV stars when they weren't. All of this has contributed to the downfall of Showtime Boxing. As well as illegal streaming, and putting non PPV fights on Pay Per View. Al Haymon reputation has taken a hit, because he's destroyed every network he's been involved with. The PBC business model is gonna have to change if they want to continue borrowing money from white corporations. The promoters and fighters are gonna have to come together. Stop dividing the fanbase. And make the best fights for the sport of boxing. if that doesn't happen. Then influencer boxers like Jake Paul, KSI, Tommy Fury, and Logan Paul will be the new faces of the sport we call boxing.
