It was coined by an anesthetist called as Virginia Apgar. APGAR means A – Appearance, P – Pulse, G – Grimace, A – Activity, R – Respiration. So we see the baby and give it a score. So as soon a s the baby is born, we see the appearance, if it is a blue baby if it is a pink baby etc. If it a sick baby, it will not be having oxygenation and will be blue or black.
