Recently I've been styling and maintaining my braidouts in very simple way I haven't seen anywhere before. In this video, I use what I call a 'semi-French plait' technique to set/maintain braid-outs in less than 10 minutes! This braid-out setting and maintenance technique is so quick and easy. Big, somewhat defined, fluffy hair that makes you feel like a million dollars. Recently I've been styling and maintaining my braidouts in a way I haven't seen documented before. (voiceover) In the past, I've tried the pineapple, one big plait, 2 big plaits, 4 big plaits AND a bun, the latter of which I find tremendously uncomfortable to sleep in. In every case, my hair has ended up frizzy, knotty and undefined. The only real recourse, yielding the look of a fresh braid-out, was the arduous task of re-plaiting 1-15 sections before bed… UNTIL NOW. Presenting my 4-semi-French plait method for twistout maintainance, moisture retention and gentle handling. If you want to moisturise and set or maintain your braidout for bed in less than 10 minutes, stay tuned. I believe this technique will work well on medium and long natural hair. As mentioned earlier, this is a trick I use for quick and easy setting AND maintenance of my braidouts - it yields a flawless look EVERY time. Here's how to do it. There's no need to have perfect partings, just make sure your hair is reasonably detangled. Your sections should also be free of stray hairs from other sections. Then spray your hair lightly with water or aloe vera juice, being sure to focus on the ends and the exposed regions of your hair like the crown and your edges. After that, add your oil or butter of choice. I'm using shea butter, which I find has the perfect hold for the look I desire. You can add an additional styler, such as a gel at this point, if you so desire. Lastly, polish it all off with your leave-in conditioner. I'm still hooked on this one from Mixtress J cosmetics. Now that we're all moisturised, let's begin plaiting. Take small to medium-sized strands and begin a single plait for an entire round before adding hair from below. If you're re-setting for bed, use that same sections demarcated from your existing braidout. If this is a fresh braidout, take new sections of your desired curl size. It's really important to give each tendril its turn in the most visible sections, i.e. the crown and perimeter. As you go down, you can French plait as normal or continue using this semi-French technique. So essentially, I'm just doing mini-single plaits and joining them together. In other words, I plait the sections I already in my hands for a full round before incorporating new hair. This will result in easy to separate curls in the morning. After you've finished all 4 sections, add a bit of castor oil to the very ends and plait all your plaits together to stretch them. I like to tuck my hair like this for maximum stretch. Then, simply wrap your hair with a satin scarf and enjoy a good night's sleep. (Cockerel) It's morning! Time to loosen the plaits to reveal your crowning glory! I'm so excited! If your hair doesn't feel well lubricated, rub some olive oil on your fingers. (me speaking on camera with fresh braidout)) Since I started using this technique nightly, I've noticed I've had: fewer knots, more definition and more importantly, more time to sleep! Try this out yourself and let me know how long it takes you to do it. I can set an ENTIRE braid-out in under 10 minutes. The next day, I simply repeat these steps and my results are consistent: defined, moisturised and bouncy curls. I can't wait to hear how this works for you! (Me speaking with the fresh braid-out) I want to hear from you! Do you do something similar for setting and maintenance already? How long does it take? Please give this technique a try and share your results below. If you have any friend who spend far too long plaiting their hair before bed, please share this video with them!
