I'm a hybrid-style shooter with a love of photography but a heavy emphasis on cinematic video. My opinions are based on a 10+ year career of producing video content professionally but that doesn't mean my suggestions are always right for every production or individual. There's plenty of room to disagree and approach projects from a variety of different perspectives. @datalaforgeمنذ 4 سنوات TONEH! I love that you said that hahahaha. For me, the only reason I'd want to go back to full frame is to be able to use cheap old 35mm film lenses with no crop. Other than that, I'm still very happy with my GH5 :) 8

@adamlucienroyمنذ 4 سنوات So yeah, I've been using the S1 and a G9 for video and photo since the S1 was released. Got rid of two GH4's. That feels like forever ago. I shoot id="hidden2" class="buttons"> sports and entertainment, and finally had to start doing freelance commercials and the like.
I understand that what I shoot seems weird because everyone poops on contrast detect, but I don't have any probs with it. I'm sure there's systems that do it better, but there's nothing wrong with how Lumix does.
I thought I would upgrade directly to an S5 after trading in my remaining m43 gear, but having to deal with two different types of batteries again seems weird to me for using the same system. So that's that. I'm going to wait until and S1 mkii, or whatever, just because I don't wanna' deal with two types of batteries. Those things are wildly expensive.
Professionally, the size of a smaller body doesn't really matter to me because I shoot with a dual blackrapid, but I've been trying to use the S1 and the 50mm 1.4 as a travel companion recently, and nope. That doesn't work. It's not the body's fault, it's the weight of that damn tank of a lens.

@Nemasticمنذ 4 سنوات The significant upgrade you want is within the lenses which you disregard as some sort of burden. Take a look at the MTF charts for the S Pro lenses, compare id="hidden3" class="buttons"> that to anything else including Canon RF, and you may start to appreciate what you are getting. 5-15% more contrast and resolution is worth the expense for the type of enthusiast Lumix makes their cameras for. Panasonic has managed to double sensor size while improving IBIS, include dual iso, and increase dynamic range for a few hundred more dollars then the GH5. ....وسعت

@LifeinDigitalFilmsمنذ 4 سنوات You make some good points! I'm into the S5 simply cause it will be my B cam since I already have the S1H. I have been a Lumix user since the G4 and id="hidden4" class="buttons"> I love the entire Lumix line. If they improved the AF, they'd have the game locked cause in my opinion, Lumix has a WAY better color science than Sony. Now I have not used the A7Siii but I have never been a fan of their color science and if I had to choose, I'd take better color science than a solid AF system. I'm used to shooting manual focus, so while it would be great to have a solid AF system, I am fine without it. ....وسعت 1

@paulgonzaleziconمنذ 4 سنوات i think that a gh5 with a full frame sensor and dual native iso is awesome.

@minorplanetpictures6046منذ 4 سنوات May I ask what is the S5 missing to make it feel like a true upgrade? I mean It does shoot Raw and have True V-log/v gamut, 14 stops of DR, capability of shooting 5.9k.

@vndamato2455منذ 4 سنوات I'm going to Wait till the GH6 comes out.
Watch I think everyone is gonna to trade their S5 for GH6. I Guarantee!
    Gh6 V LOG, APS id="hidden6" class="buttons"> 4K 160FPS 10 BIT 4.2.2
12 STOP DYNAMIC RANGE! FULL HD AT 240FPS AT 8 BIT. ( WISHFUL THINKING )

@renanmlopesمنذ 4 سنوات I think that the Lumix S5 is more than just a full frame GH5. The S5 has better dynamic range and low light capabities. And soon the camera will record id="hidden7" class="buttons"> 5.9k raw external.
I don’t care about super shallow depth of field. But those features are very impressive given the price of this camera. Also the image quality is excelent.
IMO it's the best hybrid camera for those who don't need a perfect AF system.

@DavidGriffinمنذ 4 سنوات My GH5 and GH5S are excellent. After watching Luke Nuemanns Dustgod. I determined ALMOST nobody is really using the GH5 to it's max. The S5 lacking id="hidden8" class="buttons"> All-i and 400mbps is big. It's not a don't buy level big. Just an "awwwwww" big. For now, I'll keep my sights set on the S1H.
Check out what a GH5 can do if you work within it's limits.

@scottmorgasonمنذ 4 سنوات Exactly how I think on the S5. it’s nice but the New Sony is the only new camera that gives me temptation to leave Lumix. I hope if that there is GH6 on the horizon that it knocks it out of the park. Blessings

@dude1diligenceمنذ 4 سنوات If the “new AF” of the “coming” GH6 is this contrast detection AF 2.0, then Panasonic is dead in my books. 1

@nyambeمنذ 4 سنوات Its now two major brands with 2 perfect camera that only needed to fix "one" thing each to give a killing blow to Sony. yet for some reason id="hidden10" class="buttons"> Sony still is untouched. I think Sony exec are scratching their heads right about now. So am I ....وسعت 2

@finnillson4808منذ 4 سنوات Panasonic drives me crazy. If Sony doesn’t mess up with the A7IV then I think their days are numbered.
We now have a FF camera (A7SIII) that has amazing AF (when you need it; you can turn it off), 4K up-to 120p with AF(!), ALL-I, 10-bit, better body, a decent size in the hand, tons of lenses, OK IBIS.
    A7IV will probably be 4K up-to 60p with AF and 10-bit. Maybe not ALL-I.
None of the Lumix FF cameras are attractive right now. All of their traditional advantages are now gone! Anamorphic is incredibly niche, everybody has 10bit 4K now, everybody has good color science, everybody now has some kind of IBIS that is effective in some degree (I still think Panasonic does it the best).

@evilgeniusentertainmentمنذ 4 سنوات "LUMIX S5 Officially Unveiled So Now What?" If your answer was, "Sell off their consumer camera division in 2021 like Olympus did this year," id="hidden12" class="buttons"> you get a cookie.
Add it all up - ridiculously bad autofocus, tiny HDMI port, worst in class IBIS, lack of cheap fast primes, virtual lack of any lenses with stabilization, no intra-frame recording, lack of better pre-amp control (as seen in the S1H), a big crop on slo-mo footage, no improvement to color science, yet another type of battery to deal with, cables still blocking the flip out screen, poor EFV - and you have a camera that is vastly over-priced if the goal was to attract new buyers.
Maybe Canon can get away with a micro HDMI port and other cripplings while charging a premium price, but Panasonic can't.
