The Asian Banker recognised the winners of The Excellence in Retail Financial Services Awards on March 16, 2016 at the W Hotel, Hong Kong. Over 200 submissions from banks in the Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa regions revealed the following trends: - While banks are aware of the need for better customer experience, productivity and cost to serve are still a critical area of focus (e.g. early employee retirement, reduction of workforce in mature markets). - Banks seek fintech partnerships in combination with their own fintech initiatives, but so far very few had made it to implementation stage. - Banks are aiming to integrate data analytics and AI into wealth management advisory (ANZ Australia, 8 Securities/Tian Hong Asset Management Hong Kong, Kakao and Kookmin Bank, Korea). - Emergence of systematic talent development programmes in domestic banks.
