(1 Mar 2017) Children of Rio de Janeiro took part in the junior Carnival parade competition on Tuesday. On top of much smaller floats than the ones seen in the top carnival competitions that took place on Sunday and Monday, children from several samba schools paraded down the Sambadrome with big smiles on their faces. Others danced samba and played drums, proving that talent can come at any age. Parents, friends and tourists cheered them on from the stands. Organizers say the event is an opportunity to engage children in activities all year-round and get them off the streets; since many reside in violent favelas. Tickets for the junior parade are free. Rio de Janeiro's Carnival festivities officially end on Ash Wednesday.
