Microchip/Semiconductor SHORTAGE in the Trucking/Automotive Industry (It Will Affect YOU)

Heavy Duty Mechanic talks about the serious part and Microchip/Semiconductor shortage in the trucking/automotive world and how it will affect you. The lack of parts and new trucks is starting to lead to trucks not being able to run furthering the supply chain issues that loom ahead. My dealership now has a waiting list over year for new trucks and zero inventory on the lot. That accompanied by a large growing list of parts we can no longer get is starting to seriously worry me. I'm a heavy duty mechanic and I'm seeing first hand the effects of this part shortage. We have about 15 trucks just sitting waiting for parts because they can't function without them. not to mention the very public microchip issues effect the whole transportation sector. I think most folks are aware that there is a supply chain issue but perhaps not understand the full complexity of the situation. I can only shed light on the trucking side of things but the trucking industry is key to the supply chain and with more and more trucks not being able to be fixed and no new truck to replace them we are starting to face a real shortage of truck resulting in a negative spiral effect on the supply chain. If the trucks can run, goods cannot be delivered and you are going to start to see some empty shelves, most scary is in the grocery stores. I think we are headed into a tough winter and these shortage are going to get worse before it gets better.
