How Iran Threw the World's Greatest Party in the Dessert In 1971, shah reza pahlavi of Iran threw an extravagant and exclusive party to commemorate the 2500th anniversary of the Persian empire. The party of shah of Iran had a magnificence never seen before in the world's recorded history. It had delicious food from the world's best and top restaurants, exquisite drinks, luxurious accommodations, medieval European style decorations, and more importantly - the party had the most decorated guest list - heads of states from 65 different countries, kings and queens, emperors , princes and princesses, arab sheiks, sultans, and business figures of all kinds from 5 different continents. The venue of the event was not some ancient castle or a seven-star hotel, instead, everything was organized from scratch, in the middle of a desert, by building plastic tents. The cost of shah of iran party was not a million dollars; Not a billion dollars; this party almost cost a dynasty. It proved to be a stepping stone for the rise of the Iranian revolution led by the khomeini and the fall of the Iranian Monarchy that changed the country forever. @AsimMasood-rs5ix3 days ago Shah was a great reformer. He was a very close friend of Pakistan.
Though he had relations with Israel but he always supported the Gulf states.
Iranian industry thrived in his reign. He was a rigid person and crushed his opponents but he was committed to his country.

@sanatranganathan5136last month It is a shame that those who showed up, consumed the food, enjoyed the entertainment and drank to their hearts' content, and fawned on and complimented the Shah for his generosity and hospitality; hardly anyone on that guest list gave a hoot when he was overthrown, homeless and facing destitution. Almost all of them kept a distance from him, refused him hospitality and never took his calls.
We see human nature at its worst. When the Shah was begging for countries to take him in, I wonder if this thought ever crossed his mind. I am sure it did!

@s.b.26482 years ago The Shah, that event of celebration, and the country of Iran is totally mischaracterized -full of bias. The movie clips of young Shah during WWII are cut within the movies of event -25 years apart. Seven years before Shah gave certificates or land ownership to farmers during land distribution program; picture of farmers getting those deeds and certificates while bowing to Shah is cut between the pictures of the event. The pictures of demonstrators during 1978 are mixed with pictures of celebration event in 1971. And very recent pictures (perhaps in 2020s) of Hollywood actors like Alec Baldwin celebrating and opening Champaign bottles are edited together with pictures of Shah in 1971. ... 4

@navylaks2last year Look at how much money they spend on buildings in Dubai, the shah did this as a form of invitation to world leaders and to establish trade partners.
    The money was well spent

@TWOCOWS111 months ago October-November is the WORST time to visit Iran. It is like western Kansas: everything is brown and dried up and dead, while the dust blows and the sun beats down mercilessly. The farther away you get from those two months, the better. So, March-April would be ideal, but any other months would be better than those two months. No one travels and visits at that time. But the last king of Iran was stupid enough to throw his super expensive party at Persepolis in Oct-November too, ending up in the middle of dust storm! From March to August, there would be flowers, grass and green farmlands everywhere--just like western Kansans. The area of Persepolis is called "Marv-dasht" (meaning "grassy plain" for a good reason, and that reason is seen anytime of the year but October-November ...

@s.b.26482 years ago Very biased. Very much full of misinformation. They brought sparrows and songbird from Europe? What a lie. 50,000 of the first and 25,000 of the latter? Sparrows are native to the region, and we have our native songbirds too. There are articles in Wikipedia about Iranian birds. It’s not inhabitable dessert. There is a big city a few miles away from Persepolis that is called Marvedasht full of people and many fruit orchards alongside fields of wheat and corn. And a much bigger city called Shiraz in 50 miles or less. The Agriculture College of University of Shiraz is located near by. There is a river passing close by just near the city of Marvedasht and Persepolis. There is Google map to check. And brought all the food from France? Maybe they hired some French chiefs. Yes, that’s fact, but food and fruits were abundant in Iran back then still are but not affordable anymore. I am from Darab and grew up there about 200 miles southeast of Shiraz. There were animal husbandry there, so didn’t need to import beef, lamb, or poultry. There are books with statics of growth and production of each type beside citrus fruit, apples, peers, peaches, and green vegetables. They brought soil in order to plant trees? What a lie. That region itself has the most fertile soil. To plant trees there was no need for fertile soil. About other misinformation I need to make a research to give you sources and data. ... 4

@nimash6273last year Shah of Iran had made Iran economically at highest when his system collapsed. That expensive party attracted investments and Iran was supposed to become stronger and richer because He had decided to reise the price of Oil, And there were 7 years gap between the party and the collapse. So in no way one can relate the fall of Shah to the party he held. ...

@john11982 years ago The saying even you are going to be a good puppet be a good one applies to the shah His people were starving yet he went ahead with this ridiculous party . Then afterward s it went to his head and he wanted to stick it to the west by increasing oil prices 4 fold in one year . Well it back fired and they stuck it him rightfully to him in1979 when he needed their support. What arrogant , megalomaniac! . He must have reviewed all his mistakes during his exile paiinfully. He blamed the west for his downfall. How about what he did? ... 1
