Hello Friends! This week I get about half-way through sewing some regency short stays. I go over the channels and cording process and get them ready to sew together and bind! Also, there's some fun little chats about CoCoVid and also about the Podcast that Morgan and I did and a little secret if you know how to use the internet! *wink* Regency short stays were a short-lived garment that came between the conical shape of the 18th century stays, but before the Victorian Corset was invented. They are fairly straight in shape and are mostly to give you smooth lines and support the bust underneath all of those sheer dresses. The bust point during regency was pretty high compared with modern garments and are the epitome of "lift and separate"! I hope you all enjoy! _______________________________________________________ People and Things mentioned in this video: Corset and stays supplies - https://corsetmaking.com/ The CosTube Guide - https://www.instagram.com/costubeguide/ _______________________________________________________ Things people ask me about (affiliate links): Amazon Store Page - (has books, sewing stuff, and filming equipment) - https://www.amazon.com/shop/costumingdrama _______________________________________________________ Links! ★Follow Me!★ My Patreon - https://www.patreon.com/CostumingDrama My Costuming Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/costuming_drama/ My Personal Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/lbc42/ My Cats' Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/gatosdepaduan/ ★The Podcast★ Ladies Who Genre can be found on most podcast apps and always at: http://www.ladieswhogenre.com ★Send Me Mail★ (Please keep this to just letters, unless we discuss it first. @madelinegutierrez17204 years ago I'm with you on the night owl hours!
And I think it's natural for some of us to be that way..
Some people through history had to keep the fires burning, walk the city walls, night hunting, tend kilns.. Etc.
The world was never just 9 to 5 or even only sunrise to sunset!

@joyous17764 years ago Do you feel like you are more motivated and get more accomplished on the more nocturnal sleep schedule? I am more of a night owl and often feel more motivated to work on projects at night after catching my second wind after forcing myself through the "normal" peoples day. But by then I am too tired. ... 45

@KotaMakes4 years ago Hi, it's Kota here been round but not really vocal. Based in the UK. The daughter and I have been doing fantasy costuming in the past but not until the lockdown we realised that each other had an interest in historical costuming. We are both working on an Edwardian project at the moment which we are planning to vlog about. We won't be making it in time for CoCoVID but we will be watching and participating in the audience. We both know our chances of getting to CoCo are slim to none. We are so grateful to you and the other admins who have organised CoCoVID. One day we will have a UK CoCo. ...

@kaysiahollitt21434 years ago Hi! Im sitting here, in a 12 Hr shift on a mine site in Australia and watching all the ye olde timey costume making videos I can. I started sewing at Tafe when I was doing a fashion design course and have loved it ever since. I make plus size clothing of myself as I can never find stuff I like in my size, especially fandom based things.
Just wanted to say that I've watched a couple of your videos now and I am in love.
Thank you for showing us your projects. Stay safe

@cherylspear16334 years ago Hi, Noelle! I LOVED the video and am working my way thru more of them. :) CoCoVid was amazing last weekend. I'm still making my way thru some of the videos, but they're nice to have on while I sew. Currently, I am making a Green (Mighty Morphin) Power Ranger costume for my grandson. I do primarily enjoy making historic clothing. Most recently, I made a pair of 18th century pockets with machine embroidery and last year I made my son a court suit for his trip to Versailles. I also work in the IT field and am currently working from home during the pandemic. I have followed some of the CoCoVid "makers" and "designers" for a while and was so pleased to find that you all, not only know each other, but are great friends. Awesome. ...

@tarabound4 years ago that is wonderful that you are holding an event. It is exhausting. But it is worth it.
I just want to warn you, you are probably going to feel that things are going bad.....but as someone who has run a lot of events. Your attendees never know and most of your participants don't either. Therefore, it is going to be spectacular no matter what it feels like at the time.
I wish you the best. I can't wait for it.

@skepticalpirate4 years ago Yay for late night stuff! I work nights for a reason lol, this is when I’m most awake and productive ^_^ I feel like the insistence on a 9-5 schedule is so counter to what a lot of people’s bodies actually need it’s ridiculous. Watching you make these has me wanting to make a second set of my short stays lol. Thanks for another lovely video ... 13

@TheMetatronGirl4 years ago I was looking at that doll needle and thinking, “do you suppose they had super long needles to do cording with in the old days, or a special tool?” Annnnnnd you showed the super long needle! That’s just frickin cool AF. I can’t wait to see these stays done! I’m always so impressed with your finished garments.
FYI, hydrogen peroxide is used in hospitals to get stains out of scrubs. Yes, it will EVENTUALLY destroy fabric, but if you rinse it well it’ll take a long time. I’ve had my scrubs for 12 years and they’re still kicking. 😀 Scrubs are the best work uniform...wear pajamas to work!!

@CE-wg5gn4 years ago After I started watching all you guys on YouTube, you motivated me to get back into trying to sew some costums. I tried when I was younger but I didn't have the cash to do it in a nice way and hated everything I did. Now I'm in my thirties and I'm trying again. The first thing is going to be an 18tcentury stay and a corset (because why only do one?). And I wanted to get artificial baleen for the corset. And I was like "Yeah I live in Germany shouldn't be a problem it's from here". Boy was I wrong! You can't buy it directly from the company. Googling only got me a lot of US and UK sites. So after some more search, I finally found a site, but they only sell it in 50m boxes and I don't want to buy so much if I only want to try something out. So I got some cable ties for the stays so I can at least get started with something!
And then finally, yesterday I stumbled over a defunct costuming forum where I found a functioning link to a site that actually sells it by the meter. So a corset is going to be a thing now and this is just a long way to say that I'm jealous about the resources you guys have in the US for costuming (and all the people that work together). Hope you stay save!

@EvaMariaHein3 years ago I found you in this manner: Bernadette Banner -> Morgan Donner -> Rachel Maksy -> and then you started popping up when youtube learnt that I like sewing. I am an over-ambitious beginner sewist. I have watched my late mother sew for years, both for me and her, and all that knowledge sort of got stored in my brain until now. I haven't started historical sewing yet, but hope to work my way to burlesque corsets within a couple of years. @sandybishop11524 years ago Hi Noelle I met you today on the Zoom with Bernadette and , Gee , their names elude me . I don’t really see , ok , I did make a nice linen dress and 4 lined masks with iron on inside . I am in awe of how you even manage to know what to do. Anyway , am from South Africa and am a hairstylist. I also watched Bernadette’s Cinderella video and love the hairstyles . Also watched her one where she shows outfits etc from the movie Outlander and some others . I stopped watching those series on tv because I got so mad at the fact that their clothes, hair and can you believe , make up .... was so not in context with the time period . So , as I said , could never make period costumes as , when I saw that pattern you were cutting out , I knew .... never . But really enjoyed watching . Will also watch the Zoom get together with the 4 of you girls tomorrow . Who knows , when I retire , I may make a u tube video of me spinning , dyeing and knitting . So saving the two videos for “one day info 🤣 ...

@invadersin52034 years ago I'm such a night owl, I will happily start sewing at midnight. Not useful when you have kids who get you up at dawn though.
I just started actually listening to audio books, i haven't read a book in probably 3 years, but I love books, so instead of diving into more youtube rabbit holes (which is how i found CosTube), I decided to use AudioBooks :) Right now, I am listening to Kathy Reichs Bones Never Forget, such a fan of her work, having watched all of the Bones TV series, I started to collect her books too.
I need to get motivated to finish my corset mock up, i used the tutorial on Foundations Revealed but all the tutorials are gone so i have no clue what i am doing now.

@Mommamacnz4 years ago I should be working on a costume for a science fiction/fantasy/comic fan convention mid July (I'm going as Mother Earth). I have my main fabric (a curtain I bought second hand), but nothing else. Including a pattern - I'm thinking a circle skirt pulled back to expose trousers or a cream petticoat with a deep lace hem (which I'm probably going to have to crochet as I can't find/afford what I want). I also want a cloak that has the names of various earth goddesses circling the hem (so I need to research to find the names - so far I have three and I know there's a lot more than that). I'm so unmotivated to get on with it. Currently I'm reading Mercedes Lackey's Four and Twenty Blackbirds. And for the last couple of years I've been listening to the Librivox free recording of Mrs Beeton's Book of Household Management - I only listen to it when the radio in the car bores me. ...

In other news, the pillow shams that match the completed Star Wars quilt are DONE! Now I'll be making a crib-size quilt from the leftover half-square triangles to donate to charity. On your rec, I borrowed Witches of New York from the library, so I'll be listening to that while I work. ...

@lorrispeciale15854 years ago You asked what we were up to and I'm about to start my first corset. I'm using Laughing Moon pattern #100 and I'm scared to death. Wish me luck. BTW I'm loving the Co-Covid idea. Wonderful!!

@e.urbach77804 years ago Wow! I'm so excited to hear about CoCovid! I've gotten away from sewing lately because I just don't seem to have the motivation, but my interest is starting to come back. This weekend I've been watching the videos that are part of the Online Charlie Chaplin Days event that the Niles Essenay Silent Film Museum is putting on, which has been fun. ... 1

@sygirl1014 years ago Ohh! Pleasantly surprised by the video! Perfect to watch while drinking my coffee. I noticed you're an outward notcher, like me. I learned to do that the one time I cut my notches too deep into the seam allowance. XD
I have to say, I'm excited about Cocovid. It was never really an option for me to fly across the world to go hang out, but virtually seems like a great option! Yay! I'm so glad you are organizing it :)

@harmonygibbs79044 years ago I really want to expand my corset sewing escapades but for now i'm focusing health and wellness. I LOVE my light box for when i'm taping paper patterns together. it makes that so much easier. I used to do it on the sliding glass doors and man does that get exhausting.
I am also excited about the splash mountain redesign. About damn time. I thought they should have done it during the closure but whatever. I was listening to Dresden and then.... wandered off. I just finished Jurassic Park and am about to start the Lost World (the narrator is great and i LOVE the first book so i'm hoping the second is as good)
    YAY CO-CO-Covid!

@williamstrickland97954 years ago Glad to see another video. I'm still sewing, by hand, two eighteenth century outfits out of stash cotton gabardine and one natural linen. Joanne's reopened so I got the right colored thread. I'm listening to the book versions of Red Dwarf, a sci-fi comedy. Love the idea of Cocovid, and I will participate. I'm much of a luddite and at age 68 am not ready to invest time and resources in starting to learn about technology. Wish I could display my work on the red carpet. Next year in person. ...

@seamsuneven78244 years ago Hello, I just stumbled on to your channel. I love to learn new sewing techniques of all sorts. I am bummed to see that in the video you weren't demonstrating what you were doing. What you made looked so lovely, I would have loved to see the techniques you were using to apply the channels. I will watch a few more videos maybe you will show your sewing techniques in upcoming tutorials/vlogs. Thank you ...

@barbaraleaweaver-mercado18204 years ago Very interesting video on a kind of corset I have never made.Don't think my arthritic hands could handle the cording, so it was lovely watching you do it. I watch many videos on costume, miniature, and other crafting construction as well as restoration vids. Good luck with the online convention project. I want to be part of that. I am making an early Victorian corset to go with the lace insert blouse,, petticoat, and walking skirt. Thank you for all your hard work! ...

@taylortomblin4 years ago Hello! I'm excited to see all the Regency stuff come together! I do Regency recreation too. I'm wondering , what made you choose short stays over long stays?

@lesaschmidt76684 years ago I am so excited for CoCovid! I have wanted to go to costume College for a while, but can’t afford the travel expense so this makes me so excited to get to experience it in a whole new way without travel! Currently I am working on my first Edwardian project, and even though it scares the dickens out of me I’m just gonna do the thing. Much love from Ohio!💜💜💜ps I hope your MIL is still recovering nicely from her stroke and that the hubs, and kitties are all good too! ...

@bonniecolleenpappin88074 years ago This has been a very interesting video for me as I have the RedThreaded kit and pattern for short stays in my queue.
I'm making my first stays (18thC) and i cut my coutil with electric scissors. It was so easy. I recommend them for anyone with a bit of arthritis or other hand issues.
Tho' I'm not sewing at the moment as I have broken a bone in my foot. To avoid a plaster cast I have taken to my bed and a drafting chair to get around. Another week before I can go into a boot and put some weight on that foot. Embroidering in bed for the granddaughters while watching videos is the life for me. Thank goodness my husband is a good nurse, works in IT from home and has plenty of practice looking after me!
I find it interesting that you have become nocturnal. My mother is that way too, altho' she is quite elderly now, she worked nights for decades. It must be something that is natural for some people.

@teaweaselstudios4 years ago Yeah they have been doing studies, and there really is a such thing as a night person and a day person. They have found your brain has an ingrained timing, and when it fully kicks in and when it recharges most efficiently during sleep is fully dependent on your natural patterns. No amount of coffee or forcing will change it. The podcast Factually! by Adam Conover did an interview with a brain scientist who is working on that research. It is interesting to listen to. ... 1

@sarahqintheoffice93714 years ago Hi. Relatively new. (Long time listener, first time caller) I found you May-ish through a series of events that started with an instagram post by @katestangledstring on 5 fingered braiding. I have been mainlining Morgan, Bernadette and your videos ever since. So nice to meet you all! I have a pattern for short stays cut out so when I saw the short stays on your board and have been eager to see your process. Also super excited about CoCoVid. I know I will be mainlining that too :) ...

@marinary13264 years ago Totally agree with you about doing better on a "non traditional" schedule! It sucks that so much of our society isn't built to accommodate us night owls... and that some people (hi, mom!) judge us for not wanting to wake up in the AM hours. Especially since I'm something of a loner/introvert, it's nice to have some time awake when other people in the house aren't around.
And I'm so excited to hear about a Splash Mountain revamp! You're the first I've heard that from. I always loved Splash Mountain, even though the last time I was there I was just started to gain some... "racial consciousness", I guess I'd call it. And Princess and the Frog deserves way more love! When I was little and first went to Disney World I had no idea what Song of the South was, and so the theming of the ride seemed totally random to me even before I knew what a racist legacy it was. I think it will be much more fitting for such a flagship attraction to be themed around an ip that kids will actually recognize.
Oh yeah, and nice work on those stays, to get around to the actual subject of the video :P I've considered making or buying a set of Regency stays myself at some (far, far off) point in the future. They seem like potentially a nice replacement for bras, which I tend to have issues with, and to require a little less specialized material and knowledge to make than a corset. Of course I'd love to make myself some corsets some day, but that's really not a project for a beginning level sew... sewist? like myself lol

@stephaniepiccioni10474 years ago I love hearing about everyone else's covid sleep schedule-- 3 AM-8 PM squad? Anyone? Also, I'm so excited about this short stay series because I've been seriously debating between making and buying a pair. I'm currently working on bonnets and chemises (because those are the projects I could get my mom and sister excited about doing too and I wanted company!) and this might prove the final straw one way or the other. I love your videos!! I found you on Instagram when I was researching Regency styles for a writing project and now I'm subscribed to a lot of Costube and doing two sewing projects with more planned, so there you go lol. ...

    @annapeintner87564 years ago Hello :3
I'm new in this niche of creative hobby I suppose, my name's Nan. I found you via... well. Bernadette's Channel, and then Cat's Costume (I dont know if i got that right), and youtube algorythms I guess. At the moment I'm mostly refreshing my sewing skills by mending and altering clothes, but I'm hoping to expand that into a more historically inspired realm. I found your video quite lovely, with great background music to craft a thimble to.
    Also Greetings from Italy!
