I have Aspergers so I know quite a bit about this: the hand flapping thing is called stimming (short for self stimulatory behaviour) and it is id="hidden33" class="buttons"> something autistic people often do when nervous or excited. Stimming can also be things like spinning in circles, rocking back and forth, jumping, slapping their thighs or something like that, touching things that have a nice texture (like smooth rocks, slime, teddy bear) etc. Neurotypical people stim too, but usually not to the same extent. Biting and chewing the skin on your fingers is also MUCH more common in people on the spectrum or people with OCD. Thought that might be interesting to know :)
You say you've been doing it since you were a baby, so you COULD be on the spectrum if you also experience things like sensory overwhelm (you find bright lights tiring or stressful, can't handle certain fabrics against your skin, certain noises or loud sounds bother you), and if you think or act different than "most people", if you have social anxiety or some trouble with social situations in general, trouble making eyecontact.. There are lots of other things, everyone's different.
Just putting it out there.
I was diagnosed at 25. I look totally normal, people never suspect anything is different about me until I tell them. They notice that I'm socially awkward, but that's it. People on the spectrum look like everyone else, and at least 1 in 60 humans have neurodiverse brains. I say 'at least' because we don't know if it is more common than that.
I really hope you won't be offended if you read this. There is a growing neurodiversity pride movement, and we know that there is nothing wrong with being on the spectrum. Autism is not bad, it's not something that should be cured. We are just different, not worse. Neurotypical and neurodiverse brains are equal. It's just like different operating systems.
I'm telling you all this because you have two distinct symptoms. That could be totally random. Again, I'm not trying to offend you and I REALLY hope you don't take it the wrong way. I just wish someone had recognized my symptoms earlier. So on the offchance that this will help you discover something about yourself, I'm saying it.
If none of the other stuff applies to you and you're just a neurotypical person who likes to stim, maybe you learned something you didn't know at least :)) Keep stimming. It does soothe your brain. Nothing to be ashamed of. Love you. ....وسعت 13
