    @paularaqeukai7379منذ 10 سنوات A good speech and in my personal opinion I would add that the abrogation and the reinstatement of the GCC should be left alone with the indigenous people id="hidden3" class="buttons"> of Fiji and not any governments now or in the future let alone any illegal governments for that matter to decide.if the current regime wishes to abolish the GCC then why NOT put it on referendum to the Indigenous Fijians to decide????????????? that's the democratic way and NOT the way it is NOW.forcing in their throat to accept GCC to be abolished.that's an insult to ALL ordinary indigenous Fijians of Fiji.the best way for this current regime is to ASK for forgiveness and reconciliations to ALL the people of Fiji of the wrongs it did from 2006 until now.and then establish a TRUTH COMMISSION as way forward before the election in September.I had mentioned this so many times to them VIA its current constitutional submission in 2012.but looks like the regime is over-confident in the final results of the 2014 election.God Help my beloved Fiji to move into the right direction. ....وسعت 4

    @itsfakegenesisمنذ 6 سنوات All these comments were 4 years ago. It’s now after 4 years and Fiji is now in debt more than ever, employees fighting for their rights and wages, corruption everywhere, indigenous Fijians are worried about their own land taken away and being sold to investors without their consent, cost of living is not equal with our wages, more students are in debt because of TELS, so much money wasted on freebies and people of Fiji are oblivious to what is really happening in our country today.
    Fiji will never change unless the government changes. Some of you reading this will disagree but before you do, think about the country and our future, our kids future. Do you really want a future with a corrupted government?
    Let me tell you a fact, if you are still paying off something which you have bought from example a tv or a fridge or a phone from courts but you need to travel outside of the country?! YOU CANT! Immigration will stop you. So for students out their who voted for this FFP and think TELS is a good idea, News flash! It is not. Say if you finally get your degree and you are looking for a job but you offered a job in NZ or Aus? Don’t bother! You will never leave the country until you pay or your $30k or $40k student loan. I have seen this happen many times.
    Anyways to all strong FFP supporters out their who thinks that what I’m saying is just bullshit? Then you are just dumb and narrow minded and just selfish as any other supporters out their.

    @puahelavaمنذ 10 سنوات Wow, people talk about the progress that this regime has brought to Fiji in the last 8 years.
    Point 1: What changes? have and will these changes id="hidden5" class="buttons"> benefited Fiji(its people, its economy, its future)?
    2: Where is all the funding for this coming from? Who is paying for it, and at what cost?
    3: This regime has had 8 years to make changes, more time than any other govt term would allow (so definitely, changes should be visible)
    4: due to the coup, Fiji has made some affiliations with other countries and govts that the rest of the world cautious about (e.g. North Korea, Iraq) - how does this benefit the country?
    Free education/tuition
    - at what cost to the economy? What is the cost of repayment? what are the conditions of repayment?
    - what are the people really paying in V.A.T?
    - how much longer can Fiji survive in a deficit?
    Land
    1. The iTaukei are owners of the land, no disputing that - even the Geneva convention states the ownership of land land rights belong to the indigenous: it is their entitlement.
    2. Taking away indigenous land rights only fuels fires of the racial war.
    I totally agree that there needs to be a paradigm shift in the way we respond to one another, in our difference and in our approach to our country. There is no perfect party, because all parties are made up of men(and women) who are, unfortunately imperfect (broken to some extant) and tend to operate out of that brokenness.
    We need to critically, and analytically question and reflect upon our history, and decide who will help Fiji move forward (in the right direction that is).

    @68DELAIمنذ 10 سنوات I totally agree with you Mr Qarase on this topic. The GCC is an important institutation for the fijian people and a source of stability in the country id="hidden8" class="buttons"> . It is part of our cultural identity and our voices representing the Vanua . Khaiyum and he's party does not have the mandate of the indeginous Fijians when it comes to this sensitive topic . @ronalkumar9549منذ 10 سنوات Very interesting and honest opinion.  I agree that GCC is pivotal for Fiji.
    However, GCC needs a rigorous culture change for the people of Fiji (everyone born in Fiji) and not just for  portion of Fiji.  Protecting the heritage, land and culture is fine as long as this is incorporated into the gov. ministry.
    Putting too much power into one Unit restricts opportunity for people born in Fiji.
    For instance, when you were born in Fiji, different rules applied if you are Fijian/Indian/etc/etc - perhaps still does. (If you want to debate this then you were not born in Fiji)
    If GCC had been open minded, situation would have been different by now.
    Where is the meeting minutes on the discussions since GCC formed?  How much has been spent?  What is the outcome so far?  Who has benefited so far from this initiative?  Provide us the value each GCC meeting has made for the people of Fiji - not just for a particular population.
    GCC needs to earn the trust of the people and work for the people to sell their idea, so far its all just noise.

    @macvatuمنذ 6 سنوات Bula vinaka braca . . . .I don't think debates about Great Council of Chiefs will ever die out.  As you clearly say there, it was set up by our ancestors to look after the interests of the Fijian people or iTaukei as we're known today.  Fiji became a British colony and GCC was kept on though considered by many Brits as serving no purposes at all.  They pointed out that Fiji like other democracies should only be served by a central government which consists of a Legislative, an Executive and a Judiciary - bodies capable of running the administrations of a democracy.  It worked perfectly well while we were a British Colony.  Now that we are a Republic perhaps its time to leave out GCC and concentrate instead on our Central Government to run our democracy.  The Native Land Trust Board is there already, so why not channel our problems through them instead of over-burdening the Fijian Administration with another outside body like the GCC? ....وسعت 4

    @robertmanoa9063منذ 10 سنوات I strongly feel  that this man single handily cost SODELPA alot of votes in the general election. It was a bad strategy on SODELPAs part to have allowed Qarase anywhere near their campaign. Like Rabuka  SODELPA should of sidelined Qarase from the outset. Unfortunately enough damage had already being down before SODELPA realised their mistake.  What a very costly decision for them. ....وسعت 2

    @meretsamisoniمنذ 10 سنوات  It is interesting to analyse the comments below.
    80% (28 positive comments along with their thumbs up replies) support PMLQ's speech;
    17% (6 negative comments along with their thumbs down replies) do no support for PMLQ. 4 comments were made by the same person;
    and 3% (or 1 comment) was neutral.
    What does this mean from these numbers, Fark Banks' subjective comments below on racism are biased. PMLQ, made sense that the Indigenous Fijians are aggrieved with a mind-set, that if political and economic stability is not addressed objectively and satisfactorily, it will cost Fiji dearly.

    @robertmanoa9063منذ 10 سنوات Actually I think Mr Kaiyum in my opinion has got to be the best AG that Fiji has ever produced. He has played a darn good job in assisting Bainimarama id="hidden20" class="buttons"> steer Fiji through a very difficult 8 years. I was one of those who was against Bainimarama when he carried out the 2006 coup. But since then I have to give the regime credit for the advancement that the country has made. I am now convinced that Bainimarama was right along that the 2006 coup had to happen to change Fijis trajectory for the good of the Fiji as a nation state over that of special interests.
    Sorry Mr Qarase its time you retired peacefully. You had your time and you blew it. Its just sour grapes with you. Give it a rest.

If it is, you have already disrespected the GCC structure and it's members and the iTaukei population. I feel you did not do as much in your time as PM and like the other leaders, you also had dirty laundry before stepping into power. I would have expected a more educated approach, mainly in the talks of solutions to our problems rather than pointing fingers and blaming people. We are humans and we have history that may not be good, but if we look at solutions we assure ourselves of progress and prosperity.
