PRIEST BLESSES PETS IN MEXICO
Pet owners gathered outside a Roman Catholic church in Mexico City on Sunday (17 JAN.) to have their animals blessed in celebration of Saint Anthony, the patron saint of domestic animals.
Priest Francisco Raya Perez blessed the pets with holy water in a ceremony on the steps of the San Fernando Church.
The tradition is also celebrated in Spain and many Latin American countries with predominantly Catholic populations.
Saint Anthony is known as the patron saint of animals and is usually represented with a pig.
