At Iran's third Universal Periodic Review of Human Rights (UPR) on November 8, more than ten countries recommended the Islamic Republic of Iran to decriminalize consensual same-sex relations. Some of these countries were Canada, Malta, Iceland, Italy, Mexico and Germany. 6Rang would have never achieved this victory without the help and contributions of its friends and allies. 6Rang’s nonstop efforts to raise the issues of decriminalization of consensual same-sex relations, sexual minorities, and the marginalization of sexual minorities have only been possible with the backing and suppport its dedicated friends. In our view, pressures through international mechanisms on the Islamic Republic of Iran, at least in the international community, which always has its Iranian and non-Iranian audiences, push the issues of sexual minorities and criminalization of consensual same-sex relations from the margins to the spotlight. That is why this victory is very important to us. We believe the number of these kinds of moments where the voices of sexual minorities is heard louder in various political and social assemblies should increase. We must shout out louder when some of the audience pretend not to see or hear us. With this video, we want to share these moments with you and imagine a day when consensual same-sex relations are not a crime in Iran, sexual minorities are not subjected to structural and social pressures, and supportive laws regarding these groups are passed. Be a “realist” and imagine the impossible.
