We partnered with the Dominion Road Business Association to bring you this content. All restaurants featured were chosen by us. All three restaurants featured refused to let us pay for our meal- thank you so much to JadeTown Uyghur Cuisine, Tom Yum Eden and Sashimi of Japan! Dominion Road is one of Tamaki Makaurau Auckland’s food hotspots. This street with over 108 restaurants offers thousands of dishes from all around the world. Today we’re taking you into the kitchen of New Zealand’s only Uyghur restaurant- JadeTown Uyghur Cuisine- if you’re a meat-lover you’ll love this food- we eat traditional hanging kebab, Uyghur meat pies and cumin laden lamb. @yuqa303last year Just want to say a big thank you for putting in the effort of pronouncing ‘Uyghur’ as accurate as you could. We are often mispronounced as ‘wee-ger’ , and a lot of people don’t realise how damaging it is to our Uyghur identity and culture. ... 3

(Do they have an English Menu?) NZ climate certainly lends itself to these hearty dishes. I got the giggles when Thomas "spilt the tea" aghh yes there is one in every family 🤭. @TheWorldHasGoneNuts3 years ago I give you a solid 10/10 for pronouncing Uyghur/Uygur perfectly. NZ was somewhere I was saving up for pre-Covid, along with Auz, but those plans went to crap. One day... One day. 1

@andrewschirmer38492 years ago A great watch loved it thanks. I live just off Dominion Rd and have been wanting to try the Uyghur restaurant, but only myself and youngest eat lamb. My wife dislikes it. Maybe I’ll have a sneaky dinner for two. The Thai restaurant looks fab I’m going to go this week. I’m from Adelaide Australia and must admit we are disappointed with Thai and especially Vietnamese food here. ... 1

@tosht25153 years ago Uyghur - Had only once so am really unfamiliar with the cuisine. Never knew about the street pies or the meat rack. 😀
Kaisendon - Prefer Ikura over Tobiko but that would bump up the price. Still, perfect looking lunch. 🐟🦐🍚
Isaan - Som Tam, larb and sausages! Awesome Northern Thailand rep.
Uyghur Human Rights - Since ya’ll are acutely concerned with these issues, thoughts? In the news regularly.

@aprilsmith6013 years ago We stumbled across that Uyghur restaurant a couple of years ago - wandered in off the street having no idea what kind of food they served. Turned out to be delicious and a go-to place for us. If I was going to recommend two dishes from Jade Town, I'd say definitely get the smashed cucumber salad and the fried lamb and potato dish. (It's usually served with lamb, but they'll do it with beef if you ask them.. both are really delicious). ... 1

@MsKestrela3 years ago Aarrgh! Now I'm craving lamb! It's not a meat favored in my backwoods little town, so I foresee a 50+ mile round trip to get some. :/ Same for sushi. Fortunately, I have to go out to the "big town" tomorrow, so I'll add on a couple of stops to get those "exotic" foods. We're in the middle of a heat wave here, with a heat index of 115F (46C), so extra stops will have to be brief! Good thing my car has great air con... ... 1

@andersonkan33773 years ago Sashimi of Japan is run by Chinese and I find them not authentic enough in many ways. Good quality ingredients that poorly handled, license restaurant's pricing with a takeaway atmosphere. Lots of room for improvement, need lot more dedication and heart into it aye!! ... 1
