There’s a lot of confusion about this topic, and I want to clear things up. When many people think about organic, they think about the food that is grown without pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and antibiotics. However, there’s another type of organic as it relates to minerals. Organic minerals are plant-based minerals. These are in your vegetables as well as animal products (which get their minerals from plants too). When we talk about inorganic minerals, we’re talking about rocks and minerals in the soil. Only plants can convert those rocks or elemental minerals into an organic form. Inorganic minerals are not easily absorbed by the body, so it’s difficult to gain any benefits from them. Organic minerals are far more bioavailable. Our bodies are not meant to take and consume spoonfuls of soil. We have to consume plants and animals to benefit from the minerals. There’s a huge difference between organic and inorganic minerals. Avoid supplements and other products with inorganic minerals—they aren’t bioavailable.
