Springfield Police Officer Uses Stun Gun on Unarmed Man

This video was released to The News Herald on June 10, 2020 by the Springfield Police Department. Portions of the audio were removed by the Springfield Police Department. Officials say that the audio was removed to protect Solomon "Sonny" Smith's personal information. Springfield police stopped Smith on May 29, 2020 while he was walking home at about midnight. Officer Ronnie Nelson aimed and shot Smith with a stun gun as Smith begged police to let him go because he wanted to go home. Nelson was arrested on June 9, 2020 on a felony charge of official misconduct and a misdemeanor charge of battery. Springfield Police handed the investigation over to the Bay County Sheriff's Office.
