@icanusernamebetterthanyou3853قبل 9 أشهر If I were to guess, I'd say the relative lack of categorisation within Jazz is more a reflection of attitude. Jazz seems to be a genre based around id="hidden2" class="buttons"> the sentiment of "do whatever", so variation is taken to be the norm rather than notable.
    Also, fantastic shirt.

@wehavemetbeforeقبل 9 أشهر As a hardcore dance/electronic music enjoyer and producer myself, I can proudly tell even if we technically don't have the most subgenres, we have id="hidden5" class="buttons"> the most absurd genre names you can imagine like Bubblegum Bass and Future House.
And if you thought it's all GenZ and internet shit, people in the 80~90s actually called some genres Freestyle Hardcore, Bleep House or Speed Garage. Hell, even Drum and Bass is a funny name, so it's some descendent thing that runs in the blood I guess
A funny example I'd like to mention is that Aphex Twin in 1997 didn't like the name 'Intelligent Dance Music' because it feels too snobbish so he instead used the name 'Braindance'. Like wtf Richard

@harleykf1قبل 9 أشهر I wonder if the number of subgenres on rym reflects the number of active listeners. I've noticed there aren't as many songs from say the 40s or id="hidden7" class="buttons"> 50s, which might explain the lack of blues or jazz subgenres mentioned. Classical being popular makes sense to me because of the influence of formal music training. Though, the number of folk subgenres is still crazy to me. ....وسعت 20

@kelseytrombley1211قبل 9 أشهر As a fan of folk music I like the sub genres because often it can be hard to find music that I like if I’m just looking under the general genre. An issue with folk music (specifically stuff that Spotify recommends) is that it’s usually guy with guitar singing what would call indie music. Which is just not what I’m looking for. So if I look for music under the subgenre, it’s easier to find music I actually want to listen to. ....وسعت 3

@hadrienhartgers3498قبل 9 أشهر One thing that I find missing in this video is the question of how relevant it is to sort genres out. In hip hop culture it's clearly not a thing when id="hidden14" class="buttons"> compared to electronic, metal or dance. If you are getting serious in a vast culture, navigating it with subgenres might be important or not. At its core, the fact that most electronic music and dance music is devoid of human voice tends to make it more relevant to specify subgenres (although it is never enough to describe all tracks), so we know what vibe, atmosphere, energy we are talking about. For those who are not familiar with this culture, it might seem boring and not interesting, but electronic music fans can have very narrow tastes that make them want to enjoy a stage, a club, a scene or a party more than another (and sometimes it pisses me off). Plus, don't forget that most of this music is created with the intention to be played in DJ mixes, where it doesn't matter who made it. You can make deeply personal dance music but at the end of the day, it could just be a good, danceable functional track. Some artists enjoy fame in this culture, but if you have a hit it doesn't mean that people will recognize you in the streets. I could go on and on about anonymity in the context of dance music culture, the history of white labels, but that's up to the eventual reader of this comment to learn and appreciate without criticizing a culture that they don't know. What I know for sure, is that while hip hop has less subgenres, it is definitely the most "music video" driven genre, and that could be another subject of debate ! ....وسعت 73

@lukashislop5890قبل 9 أشهر genres are simply a categorical feature. artists don’t make music to fulfill whatever sounds accompany the genre they’re going to end up in. I think movements are more essential in explaining the essence of the music.

@tazmon122قبل 9 أشهر there are only 2 reasons why genres are important: 1) so record stores can have a clean organization system for costumers who don't have all day to id="hidden31" class="buttons"> dig thru crates looking for something specific. 2) marketing. capitalism sucks, but it is effective. for artists, the hard sell "we're kinda like band X but with a more band Y style", for press the ol "for fans of", for record company exec's and A&R scouts it's "style X is in now, so make less style Y so we can market you better".
sure genre gatekeeping is fun and stupid, but it's meaningless. music is music. you either like something or you don't.

@Kino_the_Crustyقبل 9 أشهر there's also the fact that anything listed as "experimental" within RYM system is that there just aren't enough to categorize it as a id="hidden32" class="buttons"> genre.
